23 - This
was a big night for the Alumni Association! For the first
time ever, we gave
each graduating senior a graduation packet. These consisted of;
an alumni tee shirt, alumni bumper sticker, membership card, membership
certificate, and a letter of congratulations from the CHSAA President
Callie Emmons. The commencement exercise was held at the Crossroads
Arena, the Alumni representatives set up in the back of the arena
where the graduates went to turn in their caps and gowns, and
to pick up their diplomas. They were then shuffled to our table
to pick up their graduation packs. This effectively puts the Alumni
Assocation at well over 300 members, we picked up over 80 members
in the less than an hour!!
CHSAA
has also recently announced our first ever scholarship recipients.
We gave a total of five scholarships, three for $1,000 and two
for $500, the recipients are listed below.

The
awarding of scholarship and distribution of graduation packets
are both landmark events and important goals in the history of
the Alumni Association. The officers have high hopes for this
growing into a rich and highly
anticipated yearly tradition that further bolsters the graduate
community and solidies the place
of the Alumni Association in the life of Corinth High School.
These two events would not have been possible without the support
of our members....fellow alumni, the officers would like to thank
every member for supporting this most worthy cause.

22 - Class of 1958 Reunion
The class
of 1958 recent had it's 50 year reunion! On Thursday May 22 the
group had an initial gathering of around 40 people at "The
Waldron." Alumni Association VP Duane Estill spoke to the
group about the alumni association and gave the group some historical
information about Corinth High School.
Below is
from the Daily Corinthian and covers the story of the Class of
1958 reunion.
Class
of 1958 gathers for 50-year reunion
Published Friday, May 30

It was a time of nostalgia and celebration as the Corinth High
School Class of 1958 celebrated their 50-year high school reunion.
According to Brenda Childs -- class member and reunion organizer
-- there were 82 graduates of the Class of 1958. Thirteen graduates
are now deceased, leaving 69 of the original class. Thirty-seven
of those graduates came to the reunion.
Classmate and organizer, Eleanor Hora, said 1958 graduates who
attended the reunion came from all over the country including
North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Idaho, Texas, and
California.
It was a special time for those who attended noted Hora. Planned
events for the weekend included a chartered bus tour.
"We took a tour of our old haunts and places that we went
while growing up. We really enjoyed that ... a lot of us even
went to kindergarten together,"said Hora.
Childs said the tour visited the sites of where the old skating
rink was on U.S. Highway 72 East, as well as the site of the Skylark
Drive-in Theatre and Liddon Lake. The class visited newer sites
such as the Welcome Center, the Civil War Interpretive Center
and the Coca-Cola museum. They also took some time to run by one
location where they could heavily reminisce.
"We went to Renasant Insurance on Waldron Street. They have
some old pictures of Corinth from way back, but we remembered
the old buildings," said Childs.
Finally, the class ended up at Corinth Junior High School on Fifth
Street. Back in 1958, it was Corinth High School. The tour culminated
with a class picture on the steps of the school -- the same place
they had their original class picture made.
"We had our class picture taken on the very same day, at
the very same time, in the very same place ... 50 years later,"
said Childs.
The class later enjoyed a dinner at The Waldron in downtown Corinth.
Both organizers said that some of the classmates had not been
back for a reunion in 50 years, while some still meet on a regular
basis. Hora, when asked about her feelings regarding the milestone
reunion, expressed strong emotion.
"Many of us spent our childhood together. It's special to
have those kind of friends, but it's even more special when you
can keep those same friends," said Hora.
"To tell you the truth, I don't think there any class like
ours," agreed Childs.
Hora noted that the phrase chosen to be printed on the attending
classmates name tags, was no accident. Each name tag said: "Friends
Forever."

CHS launches Alumni Association
A network of Warrior alumni is forming to provide scholarships,
recognize distinguished alumni and create a community of graduates
while supporting Corinth High School.
Callie Emmons, a 1983 graduate, is the founder of the Corinth
High School Alumni Association. The group will launch its membership
drive at Fridays nights basketball game.
One of the missions of the group, which operates independently
of the school district, is to provide scholarships to graduating
seniors. That could happen this year, depending on how much money
the association generates.
